Thehistologicalfeaturesof thrombus instrokepatientswithcancerare not well known. Using immunohistochemical staining ofthrombiretrieved during mechanical thrombectomy instrokepatients, thrombus compositions were compared between 16patientswith activecancer, 16patientswith inactivecancer, and 16patientswithout any history ofcancer. The activecancergroup showed higher platelet and lower erythrocyte fractions than the inactivecanceror the control group. Fourpatientswith vegetation showed very high platelet and low erythrocyte fractions.Patientswith cryptogenic etiology in the activecancergroup showed a similar pattern to those with vegetation. These findings may aid the determination of treatment strategies incancer-associatedstroke.
