Abstract

Advancements in biomedical science and technology necessitate a comprehensive evaluation of their societal ramifications. The increasing reach of these technologies underscores the imperative to engage diverse stakeholders in bioethics discourse. A discernible surge in scholarly contributions on public engagement has been observed since 2020. This study specifically examines the utilization of democratic deliberation as a method for public engagement in bioethics. Deliberative methods, commonly employed in political and social sciences to inform decision-making, are now being employed in healthcare to gather public input on significant healthcare policies and medical technologies that may affect patient groups and civil society. Through the case analysis of deliberative methodologies, we aim to elucidate the challenges they encounter in enriching bioethical dialogues and culminating in discerning resolutions.
