Abstract
The most common causes of early exfoliation of deciduous teeth are external and internal root resorption. The causes of root resorption can be divided into local and systemic factors. Local factors include infection or trauma, and systemic factors include hypophosphasia, scurvy and langerhans cell histocystosis.
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that occurs when TSC1 and TSC2 mutation is present, and symptoms appear across various parts of the body. In the presence of TSC, the typical features found in the mouth are dental enamel pits and intraoral fibroma. Two identical 7-year-5-month-old twins with TSC and mental retardation visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Yonsei University Dental Hospital. Root resorption of #75, 85 was observed on radiographic examination. A recent literature has published the relationship between TSC gene mutation and osteoclast activity, and the relationship between tooth hard tissue resorption can also be considered.
