Abstract
To investigate Doppler sonographic findings valuable for detectrng acute rejection in transplantedkidney with chronic allograft dysfunction. MATERIALS AND METHODS : Forty-three renal allografts who underwentrenal Doppler sonography and renal biopsy due to chronic allograft dysfunction were included. According tohistopathologic findings, patients were classified into 2 groups; chronic component only(group 1, n=30) and acuterejection with or without chronic component 2 groups were performed. RESULTS : No definite difference in radio ofrenal size, cortical echogenecity, corticomedullary differentiation was noted brtween group 1 and group 2.Resistive index was 0.61±0.18 in group 1 and 0.64±0.22 in group 2, which showed no statistically significantdifference. CONCLUSlON : Characteristic Doppler sonographic findings suggesting acute rejection in cases ofchronic allograft dysfunction were not found inauther's study. Therefore, minimal invasive renal biopsy todetermine histopathologic status of transplanted kidney is essential in evaluation of the chronic allograftdysfunction.
