89 Patients who came to the orthodontic department in yonsei university were divided into three groups (A: chlorzoin applied after inserting the fixed appliance, B: chlorzoin applied before inserting the fixed appliance, C: no chlorzoin applied), and the clinical effects of chlorzoin on reducing plaque and gingival inflammation in patients receiving orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances were observed.
The conclusions are as follows:
1. In patients wearing fixed appliances the use of chlorzoin can clinically reduce plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation as well.
2. Plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation reducing effects of chlorzoin, which was applied every 6 months, were maintained throughout the treatment period.
