Background & Objectives: The diagnosis of neurodegenerative dysarthria is an important step indifferential diagnosis and treatment planning. The purpose of this article was to review research literature on selected senile neurodegenerative dysarthrias, including those associated with Parkinson's disease, corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, and frontotemporal lobar degeneration. Methods: A review of this research was conducted by searching electronic databases. Results: Literature searches between the years of 1978 and 2008 yielded 58 different studies reporting data related to senile
neurodegenerative dysarthrias. Discussion & Conclusion: Although it is evident from the review that studies on this area are sparse, they provide a window into a variety of speech characteristics that may potentially influence the differential diagnosis of senile neurodegenerative disorders
