Abstract
A pilot study was conducted to investigate and understand the difficulties of communicative functions during the normal aging process and the relationship between quality of life and the Communicative Function Scale - Geriatric version (CFS-G). After the development of 45 items, reliability and validity verification was conducted. Statistical analyses revealed high reliability and validity values. The correlation between the total scores of the CFS-G and sub-domain scores of the CFS-G was investigated to measure construct validity. All correlation indices were statistically significant (all above r>.60, p<.001). The concurrent validity of the CFS-G has been selected to be .565 and showed a positive relationship with overall quality of life. The test-retest reliabilities for each sub-domain were very high, ranging from .82 to .96 (p=.000). After going through a question selection process, those communication functions which display difficulties during the aging process will be examined and if they can be identified at an early stage, language intervention can begin and an impact on the senescence quality increase can be expected.
