dc.description.abstractPurpose: To determine the diagnostic accuracy, underestimation rate and false negative rate of sonographically guided core needle biopsy for breast lesions. Materials and Methods: We included 1,110 breast lesions from 966 patients who had undergone sonographically guided 14-gauge core needle biopsies between January 2018 and December 2018. The sonographic BI-RADSⓇ category of breast lesions and the pathologic results of core needle biopsies were reviewed and correlated with that of surgery or vacuum-assisted biopsy, or >1year follow-up. The positive predictive value for each BI-RADSⓇ category, sensitivity, underestimation rate and false negative rate of core needle biopsy were evaluated. Results: Of the 1,110 core biopsy lesions, benign pathology was found in 37.6%, high-risk results in 18.2%, and malignant results in 44.2%. The positive predictive values for each sonographic category were as follows: 5% in category 3; 19.1% in category 4a; 74.6% in category 4b; 93.7% in category 4c and 99.5% in category 5. The sensitivity of core needle biopsy was 93.7% (491/524). The underestimation rate was 14.4% (29/202) for high-risk and 42.4% (39/92) for ductal carcinoma in situ. The false negative rate was 1.0% (4/417). Conclusion: Sonographically guided core needle biopsy for 2018 year in our hospital was accurate diagnostic tool for evaluating breast lesion.-
