Dental treatment under general anesthesia for the disabled in pediatric dentistry of Yonsei University Dental Hospital

dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with disabilities receiving dental treatment under general anesthesia at the department of pediatric dentistry in Yonsei university dental hospital. 776 cases (686 patients) of general anesthesia from January 2009 to December 2018 were collected for this study. The demographic factors (age, gender, general condition, reasons for choosing general anesthesia, type of disability, type of dental procedure performed, anesthesia time and treatment time) of the patients were evaluated. The conclusion runs as follows : 1. Most patients (64.8%) were young (under 10 years of age) and mean age was 8.6 years. 2. 13.8% of the patients received two or more general anesthesia with an average interval of 44.4 months. 3. Type of disability were intellectual disability (35.6%), convulsive disorder (24.0%), autism (16.3%), brain disorder (7.3%). 4. During an average of 134 minutes of anesthesia, there was an average of 5.7 restorative treatments and 0.9 tooth extraction per person. The number of general anesthesia cases for the disabled is increasing. Clinical guidelines for the disabled under general anesthesia are required through follow-up studies.-
