This article describes the development of an intervention for battered women. A comprehensive review of the literature was undertaken to determine the most effective program to decrease anxiety and depression, and to increase self-esteem for battered women. A supportive group treatment program was developed and tested on to determine effectiveness seven women staying shelter. The program consisted of an eight week intervention phase on psychological trauma, understanding of self and spouse, finding marital problem, stress-management, planning for future, and hope for life. The test found that five out of seven clients receiving supportive group treatment were less anxious and depressive, but were not increasing self-esteem. The changes between pre and post test scores of anxity, depression, and self-esteem were not supported statistically.
