Abstract
This article aims to explore the Goguryeo's medicine through Ta Hongjing(陶弘景, 456-536)'s descriptions which were remained in the Zhenglei Bencao(證類本草) of Tang Shenwei(唐慎微, 1056-1093) in Song China. Ta introduced 11 medications of Goguryeo, including jinseng(人蔘) that was collected in the area of Mt. Baikdu(白頭山). Ta said, "Goguryeo tribute Baekje's jinseng as well." It means Goguryeo used to do triangular intermediate trade between China and Baekje. Goguryeo had exported silver, jinseng, and marten fur etc and imported chinese silk and diverse luxury goods. Goguryeo's acupuncture was remarkable to recognize a vacant space inside man's hair. Medical doctors from Goguryeo did important roles in Baekje and Japan as well. It seems like that Goguryeo used to be another center in the medicine of East Asia before the Chinese Tang medicine.
