Oh Geung-seon became [he first Korean president of Severance in 1934. After the Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Japanese colonial authorities forced the evacuation of missionaries and suppressed missionary works. Oh Geung-seon tried to foster the development of outstanding medical doctors despite the difficult circumstances under the Japanese colonial rule. Oh Geung-seon and Kim Myeong-seon dispatched Severance medical school graduates to mission hospitals in Korea to serve as mediators among the missionaries. They were dedicated to normalizing the mission hospitals. Oh Geung-seon recommended Kim Myeong-seon as the director of Pyeongyang Presbyterian Hospital. Mun Chang-mo and Goh Byeong-gan also managed mission hospitals. After the liberation in 1945, Severance Hospital-located in front of Seoul Station-was a meeting place of returning Korean nationals from abroad. Severance``s Student Unit maintained public order and relieved repatriated brothers. During this short period, they were dedicated to voluntarily serving war refugees and repatriated brothers. During the Korean War, Severance Hospital organized relief hospitals in Geoje, Cheongdo, Wonju, and Seoul. Severance Hospital and its graduates attempted to respond to the needs of the times.-
