Abstract
The aim of our study was to find out the degree of performance anxiety felt by music college students major in string instruments and its correlation with musical performance. Forty-one students major in string instruments filled out Beck`s anxiety inventory just before evaluation of musical performance at mid-and final-term exam. Surveys done twice showed that number of students who felt minimal, mild, moderate, and severe anxiety were 18(43.9%), 10(24.4%), 7(17.1%), 6(14.6%). There was no correlation between anxiety level and music performance score at mid-term exam when no students felt severe anxiety. However, students who had severe anxiety at final-term exam scored significantly lower than those who did not(p < 0.05). This study showed that practicing teachers should comprehend anxiety level felt by students major at music and tried to manage it.
