Abstract
Schizophrenia is a chronic disorder which needs maintenance treatment. The authors reviewed available studies focusing on reduction of the rate of relapse and maintenance of symptom control in long-term clinical trials of ziprasidone. Placebo controlled study demonstrated that long-term treatment with ziprasidone could reduce the risk of relapse and maintain the control of symptoms, especially negative symptoms. Ziprasidone showed comparable efficacy with haloperidol, olanzapine, and risperidone in terms of relapse prevention and maintenance of symptom control in long-term clinical trials.
