소아 정신의학 분야에서 학령전기 아동의 정신적 표상을 알아보는 것은 그들의 내적 세

계를 이해하는 측면에서 매우 중요한 과제이다. 본 연구에서 사용한 놀이이야기 기법인 M

acArthur Story-Stem Battery(MSSB)는 아동의 정신적 표상에 대한 정보를 제공하여 그들

의 내적 세계를 이해하도록 도와준다.

본 연구에서는 정상아동군 55명과 불안장애 또는 적응장애를 진단 받은 임상군 23명의

MSSB를 이용한 놀이 이야기 꾸미기에 나타난 이야기의 주제, 정서 반응과 부모에 대한 정

신적 표상을 비교하었다.

정상아동군은 내용 항목에서 임상군에 비해 애정, 공감/도움, 제휴를 임상군은 정상아

동군에 비해 비전형적 반응, 처벌, 배제, 복종을 더 많이 보였다. 그리고 정상 아동군은

부모에 대한 긍정적 표상을 더 많이 보였으며, 부모에 대한 긍정적표상과 기쁨은 정적 상

관관계를 보이고, 불안은 부적 상관관계를 보였다.

이러한 결과를 통해 긍정적 표상을 가지는 것이 정서적 조절 능력과 관련이 있으며, MS

SB가 학령전기 아동의 내적 세계를 평가하는데 유용하다는 것을 알수 있다.

Mental representation of childen : Comparison of normal and clinical children

In child psychiatry, it is very important to examine the mental representation of

preschool children in order to understand their inner world.

The specific play narrative technique used in this study was MacArthur Story-Stem

Battery(MSSB) and it provided information about children's mental representation.

The play narratives of 55 normal preschool children and 23 clinical children who

were diagnosed with anxiety disorder or adjuseent disorder were compared in content

theme, emotional reaction and parental representation.

Normal children showed greater affection, empathy/helping and affiliation than

the clinical children but clinical children showed greater atypical reaction,

punishment, exclusion and compliance than the normal children. Normal children

skowed greater positive representation of the parent than the clinical children.

Among the correlations between parental representations and emotional reactions,

positive parental representation and anxiety showed negative correlation.

According to the above results, positive mental representation seems to be

related with emotion regulation ability. MSSB may be an useful method for gaining

access into the inner world of preschool childlen.
