노인의 여가기능이 우울척도에 미치는 영향

본 연구에서는 사회 문화적 환경이 다른 곳에서 성장한 노인집단간의 우울경향성과 여가기능의 차이를 살펴보고, 여가기능이 노인의 우울경향성에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 서울 소재 양로원에 거주하고 있는 국내 거주 노인 55명과 강원도 소재 양로원에 거주하고 있는 사할린 교포 귀국 노인 35명 등 총 90명의 노인을 연구대상으로 하였으며, 여가기능을 측정하기 위해서 Witt와 Eliss(1987)가 고안한 Leisure Diagnostic Battery(LDB)를 실시하였고 우울경향성을 측정하기 위해서 Yesavage(1983)의 Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS)을 면담을 통한 설문지 조사방법으로 실시하였다. 연구결과, 사할린 교포 귀국 노인들이 국내 거주노인들에 이해서 우울경향성이 높았다. 그리고 여가기능이 많은 국내 거주 노인들이 여가기능이 적은 사할린 교포 귀국 노인들에 비해서 우울경향성이 낮을 것이라는 가설은 지지되었다. 즉, 여가기능이 많은 국내 거주 노인집단이 다른 집단과는 달리 우울경향성이 가장 낮았으며 집단간차이도 유의미하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 노인들의(특히 양로원 거주노인) 정신건강 증진을 위해서 여가기능의 향상 및 만족도를 높여주기 위한 교육 및 프로그램의 개발과 적용의 필요성을 제시할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to compare the difference of the tendency for depression and leisure functioning between two elderly groups in different socio-cultural environment. Also, this study investigated whether the difference of leisure functioning affected the tendency for depression. The participants are 55 elderly residing in the nursing home in Seoul and 35 Sahalin returning Koreans in Kangwon-Do. Leisure Diagnostic Battery(LDB) developed by Witt and Eliss(1987) was

used to measure leisure functioning of the elderly and Yesavage(1983)'s Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS) measured the tendency for of depression, The battery and GDS were gathered through interviewing. The result of this study reports that the

tendency of depression in Sahalin returning Koreans was higher than the elderly in Seoul. And the result supports the hypothesis that the elderly in Seoul who have maintained higher leisure functioning showed lower depression level than the Sahalin elderly who had poor leisure functioning. In other words, there were significance between these two groups. This study suggests that education and the leisure program shoed developed and applied for the higher leisure functioning and satisfaction of the elderly(especially elderly in nursing home).
