Abstract

The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of Indomethacin on postsurgical edema in rats.

For this Study,35 male rats, each weighing about 300 grams, were divided into 2 groups.

Group 1: Composed of 10 rats that received no medication.

Group 2: Composed of 20 rats that were administered Indomethacin intramuscularly (5mg/kg), preoperatively and 12 hours postoperatively.

Results were obtained as follows.

1. Tissue water content of Group 2, that was administered Indomethacin intramuscularly were markedly reduced compared to that of Group 1 that received no medication.

2. Tissue water content of Group 1 and 2 were all higher than control group which received no surgery.

3. Tissue water content of Group 1 and 2 after 24 hours, were slightly higher than tissue water content after 48 hours.

4. In the microscopic findings, the infiltration of inflammatory cells and edema were markedly reduced in Group 2 than that of Group 1.
