정신박약자들의 칫솔질 교육 효과에 관한 연구

심신장애자들의 정상인화가 강조되고 있는 가운데 칫솔질 교육은 필수적인 생활교육이며 특히 사회적으로 고립된 정신박약자들의 구강보건향상을 위해서 최우선으로 고려되어야 할 것이다.

본 연구에서는 정신박약자들의 효과적인 예방치과적 관리 방법을 모색하기 위해서, 서울시 소재 특수학교에 재학중인 훈련가능급 정신박약자 65명과 보호자를 대상으로 4주간 개별적 칫솔질 교육을 실시하고 평가한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.

1. 칫솔질 교육 효과는 성별과 무관하게 4주까지 지속되었다(P<0.01).

2. 4회 반복 교육 후에는 10세 이하 연령군에서 칫솔질 교육 효과가 가장 크게 나타났으며(P<0.01), 4주 후에는 연령군간에 유의한 차이가 없었다.

3. 저학년에서는 보호자가 참석한 경우 칫솔질 교육 효과가 오래 지속되었으며(p<0.01), 고학년에서는 보호자 참석 여부에 따라 유의한 차이가 없었다.

4. 부위별로는 협면보다 설면에서, 상악보다 하악에서 구치부보다 전치부에서 칫솔질 교육 효과가 높게 나타났다(P<0.05).

A great majority of the handicapped have been dentally neglected for a variety of reasons. The mentally retarded population's need for dental care is reflected by the dental diseases from which they suffer, yet they have seldom received the benefits of a preventive dental health program.

The program designed in this study was developed to teach toothbrushing procedures to noninstitutionalized mentally retarded children and young adults over 4 week period.

The results were as follows :

1. The effect of toothbrushing instruction continued until the 4th week regardless of sex.

2. The greatest effect of instruction was observed in the group lower than ten after the 4th instruction and after 4 weeks there was no significant difference among the age groups.

3. In lower grades, the effect of instruction was more continuous in the group with parents, and in higher grades, there was no significant difference between the group with or without parents.

4. During disclosing, a tendency to find greater effect on the lingual rather than facial surfaces, on the anterior rather than posterior tooth surfaces and also on the lower rather than upper tooth surfaces was observed.
