Abstract
[한글]본 논문은 현재 시판되고 있는 4종류 칫솔의 치태제거에 대한 효과를 비교하고 그 결과를 통계적으로 처리하여 작성되었다.

본 논문을 위한 연구대상으로는 건강한 구강상태를 갖고 있으며 정상교합을 갖고 있는 15명의 치과대학 남학생들과 14명의 구강위생과 여학생들이 참여하였으며 모든 대상자들은 동일한 실험에 참여하였다.

치태의 양과 치은의 건강상태는 각 치아마다 10일 간격으로 Loe가 1867년에 주장한 치태지수 및 치은염증도지수 따라서 측정되었다.

임상실험의 결과는 전자계산기에 의해 처리되고 통계적으로 분석되었다.

그 결과는 다음과 같았다.

1. 치태H지수 및 치은염증도 지수가 낮은 순서로 표기하면 나이론인 제4군, 천연모인 제3군, 나이론인 제1군, 천연모인 제 2군 칫솔 순이었다.

2 .평균치태 및 치은염증도지수는 동종의 재료로 만들어진 칫솔중에서 단섬유의 직경이 굵을수록 낮게 나타났다.

3. 치태량의정도와 치은염증의 상관관계는 순상관관계로 나타났다.

4. 모든 칫솔은 상악 및 하악치악의 근원심부위에서 가장 높은 치태 및 치은 염증중도지수를 나카냈다.

5. 치아 위치상으로 가장 낮은 편측평균치태지수는 모든 칫솔군의 경우 하악제1대구치에서 나타났으며, 가장 높은 편측평균치태지수는 상악제1대구치에서 나타났다.

6. 치아위치상으로 가장 낮은 편측평균치은 염증도지수는 모든 칫솔군의 경우 상악중절치에서 나타났으며 가장 높은 편측평균치은 염증도지수는 하악중절치에서 나타났다.



[영문]The present investigation was undertaken as an attempt to compare the plaque removing effectiveness of four different types of commercially available toothbrushes and evaluate the findings statistically.

Fifteen male dental students and fourteen female oral hygienists of good health and having normal occlusion participated in this study. All the volunteers had the same experiments.

The amount of plaque and gingival health were assessed at 10 day intervals for each toothbrush according to criteria of plaque index system and gingival index system(Loe 1967).

The data from clinical examination were computerized and analyzed statistically.

The results were as fellows.

1. The first highest index was found in the toothbrush of group 2 made of natural brush. The second highest index was found in group 1 male of nylon brush. The third highest index was found in group 3 made of natural brush. The lowest was found in

group 4 made of nylon brush.

2. The lower mean plaque and gingival index were found in the toothbrush with filaments of the larger diameter in the toothbrushes made of the same materials.

3. A positive correlation between the degree of plaque and the degree of gingivitis was found.

4. All the brushes showed the highest mean plaque and gingival index in the upper and lower mesiodistal area.

5. The lowest unilateral mean plaque index by the tooth position of each toothbrush was scored from the lower first molar, whereas the highest plaque index was scored in the maxillary first molar.

6. The lowest unilateral mean gingival index by the tooth position of each toothbrush was scored from the maxillary central incisor, whereas the highest gingival index was scored from the mandibular central incisor.
