In this paper, the remote surveillance system for the aged was developed by combining the image processing techniques with motion detection. it consisted of median filtering, Gaussian filtering ,erosion, dilation, connected component labeling, edge detection, and subtraction-based regional motion detection. The prototype system with four fixed-cameras was initially installed at testing house for 14 days to evaluate the performance of the designed system. Throughout experimentation, it demonstrated the possible usability to link the aged person either to family members or to the emergency person, when the ages person resided at the house alone without family members’observation.
