| dc.description.abstract | We measured the lengths and the angles of inclination of the transverse processes and the spinous processes. Ninety adult Korean dried vertebrae were used. The results are as follows: 1. The lengths of the transverse processes of the cervical vertebrae were generally short. It was gradually increased toward the lumbar region. The lengths were increased much in the transitional portions from the cervical to the thoracic and from the thoracic to the lumbar level. The transverse process of the third lumbar was longest(34.5mm), and that of the third to sixth cervical was shortest(17.9mm-18.4mm). In the thoracic vertebrae, the longest transverse process was most frequently observed at the second and sixth thoracic levels 2. An angle between the median plane and the axis of the transverse process was smaller than 90˚ at the cervical level. and the angle below seventh cervical was greater than 90˚. It was continually increased from the seventh cervical to eleventh thoracic levels and decreased in the lumbar level. The smallest one was In the fifth or the sixth cervical level(68.4˚-68.9˚), the largest one was in the eleventh thoracic level( 136.2˚). 3. The lengths of the spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae were increased till the sixth thoracic level and then decreased to the lumbar levels. The longest one was at the sixth thoracic level(48.3mm) and the shortest one was at the second cervical level (18. 7mm) 4. The angle between the superior surface of the vertebral body and the spinous process was decreased in the cervical level, and it was increased from the seventh cervical to the sixth thoracic level and decreased again to third lumbar level. The angle was largest in the sixth thoracic level(61.2˚) and smallest in the third lumbar level(6.9˚) 5. The length of the seventh cervical transverse process and the angle of the fourth cervical transverse process were different significantly between male and female. | - |
