Abstract
This perspective article discusses the fundamental principles and philosophy of surgery for cleft lip and palate, along with the mindset of the surgeon. Cleft lip and palate surgery plays a vital role not only in restoring the patient's functional and aesthetic capabilities but also in enhancing their quality of life. Particularly during cleft lip surgery, the surgeon must approach the procedure with a strong sense of responsibility, recognizing that it can have a decisive impact on the child’s life. Regardless of the time it takes, the philosophy of proceeding slowly and thoroughly to restore normal shape and function is essential. This commitment goes beyond mere technical proficiency and is intrinsically linked to the surgeon's mission to effect positive change in the patient's future.
