Abstract

It was the first trial of external quality assessment for Immunoassay in Korea. Among 338 replied laboratories, 205 laboratories reported that they were performing immunoassay test items. Ahead of external quality assessment, a survey was done about the instruments, methods & test items that were used and performed in member laboratories. Among surveyed test items, we selected three tumor markers AFP, CEA, HCG, three items of thyroid function tests T3, T4, TSH, and specific serum proteins IgG, IgM, EgA excluding items that are overlapped with Immunoserology subcommittee. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Most of the member laboratories use EIA methods more than RIA methods. 2. Abbott Imx analysers are most widely used for Immunoassay tests in clinical laboratories. 3. About sixty-percent. of member laboratories use automatic immunoassay analyser such as nephelometer and turbidimeter for IgG, IgA, IgM quantitation. 4. reference Methods for Immunoassay test items should be selected for adequate quality control in near future.
