Abstract
Cefuroxime(Sbincef) is a kind of cephalosporin compound for parenteral use with the improved stability to degradation by ft-lactamase and its broad antibacterial spectrum.
Authors carried out clinical studies to evaluate the efficacy of cefuroxime in the prevention of pediatric post-operative infection and the safety of the drug. 26 patients. who underwent major pediatric surgical procedures. were chosen for the study.
Cefuroxime was administered 60 mg/kg by intravenous route from one day prior to surgery up to post-operative 10 days. WBC count with differential count, body temperature and liver function were the criteria for evaluation.
No significant post-operative infection was developed. No toxic reaction was observed except one case of skin rash. which subsided promptly by quitting drug. In general. Cefuroxime seemed to be a very satisfactory in the prevention of post-operative infection of the pediatric patients.
