The purpose of this research was to verify the moderated mediating effect of the meaning in life in the path between presbyphagia, depression, and self-neglect in older adults, in order to identify the effective prevention plan of self-neglect and the role of the meaning in life in affecting the health level of old age. For this purpose, 787 older adults aged 65 years or older who use Multipurpose Senior Centers and daycare facilities nationwide were analyzed. In the relationship between presbyphagia as an independent variable, depression as a mediator variable, and self-neglect as a dependent variable, the moderated mediating effect of the meaning in life was verified by bootstrap method. The analysis results are as follows. First, the degree of presbyphagia in the older adults significantly predicted depression. Second, the depression in older adults significantly predicted self-neglect. Third, the effect of presbyphagia on self-neglect through depression depends on the level of the meaning in life. Based on the results of the study, the necessity of an intervention program to improve the meaning in life along with early detection of presbyphagia in older adults and preparation of active treatment plans was suggested. In addition, the significance of this study is that the convergence of health care and social welfare of the older adults was proposed through a multidisciplinary approach.-
