Abstract
Background and Purpose: Smoking is one of the typical deviation act that leads adolescents to deviate. Past studies have shown that the higher the allowance for the adolescents, the higher the prevalence of smoking among adolescents. And there is a possibility that a adolescents will work part time to smoking and use it as allowance. The participation if part-time work for adolescents in Korea is on a trend to become more common. As times change, the type and purpose of part-time jobs are changing. Therefore, we investigate relationship between part-time job and smoking. we provide basic data that to decrease the prevalence of smoking among adolescents. Methods: This study is the second analysis using the data of 'The 13th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, 2017(KYRBS)' and a total of 62,276(male n=31,624, female n=30,652) students were analyzed. We analyze the characteristics of main variables such as demographic factors and socioeconomic factors and investigated relationship between part-time job and smoking. we used a survey procedure in the SAS 9.4 program, we analyzed the frequency, X 2-test, and logistic regression. Results: Of the total subjects(n=62,276), 13.09%(n=8,150) of had experience of smoking. Current smokers were 46.25%(n=3,769). Of the current smokers, 45.74%(n=1,724) were daily smokers. Sex, grade, school level, academic performance, part-time work experience (Within the last 12 months), average of weekly allowance, economic status, parental education, residence type, and passive smoking at home(within the last 7 days) Were statistically significant in the non-smokers, former smokers, current smokers. In logistic regression analysis, demographic factors(sex, grade, academic performance), socioeconomic factors(average of weekly allowance, economic status, parental education, residence type), smoking related factors(passive smoking at home, purchase convenience, smoking cessation education, experience of cigarette advertising exposure, recognition of cigarette pack warning picture, quit smoking of cigarette pack warning picture) was related to the relationship between part-time job and smoking. Conclusion: This study is expected to be used as an important rationale for establishing policies for the prevention and smoking cessation by investigating the relationship between part-time job and smoking using large-cale data for Korean adolescents. Studies should be continued for a multidimensional approach to prevent smoking cessation by institutional and legal devices for cigarette smoking. In addition, specific methods should be explored to diversify public relations activities for prohibition of smoking, and research should be conducted on the development of a smoking cessation education program and evaluation tools and evaluation of effectiveness.
