Abstract
This study focuses on classifying types of private tutoring market depending on the consumer’s nature and understanding the characteristics of each type of market. This study utilized the analysis material ‘Private Education Expenditure Survey of 2014’ provided by the National Statistical Office. The elected variables for classifying the types of private tutoring market were elected by region, gender, grade, household income, private education expenditures, forms of private education, and purpose of private education which represent the characteristics of the consumer. Furthermore, as statistical analysis, Latent Class Analysis(LCA), one of the types of market segmentation, was utilized. Followings are the summary of the analysis results. First, there are 9 latent classes 4 middle school, and 5 high school) drawn through the LCA. Furthermore, through typological process on 9 similar latent classes, 4 types of private tutoring market has been formed: Type of Premium Complex, Type of Universal Private Tutoring Institute Market, Type of Private Lesson, and Type of Workbooks/Online Learning. The results of this study could be used as a basic data on the study of the classification of the private tutoring market. It can also provide useful guidance in the process of establishing and implementing private education policies and help school administrators and teachers organize education programs that meet the individual characteristics of students.
