Family planning has become one of the most important governmental concerns since 1962. The practice of exercising choice about child spaing and the limitation of family size is now recognized as a basic human right. However, in order to exercise this right, People need information about birth controland thay need access to affective modern family planning sevices.
Public haelth nurses can play a key role in assuring or public health nurses to perform this role, it is essential that they have sufficient knowledge and favorables attitudes about family planning. Hence, it has been felt that there should be a study of knowledge and attitude regarding family planning of 118 public
health norses in Seoul healt centers where general public health nursing is practiced.
The data were obtained from the survey conducted during the period from Sept. to Nov. 1971, using a scientific questionaire with well trained interviews.
The investigated areas through the questionaire were:
A. Knowledge regarding family planning
1. The conception fo family planning.
2. Historical background of family planning service in Korea.
3. Family planning as a public health funtion.
4. Role of public health nurses in family planning.
5. Anatomy and physiology of repreduction.
6. Methods of birth control.
7. Population problems.
B. Attitude regarding family planning.
1. Acception of the idea of family planning.
2. Ideal number of children.
Faru hypotheses were tested:
1. "Public health nurses who have been practicing the generalized nursing service in Seoul have sufficient knowledge regarding family planning." -This hypothesis was confirmed.
2. "Public health nurses who have been practicing the generalized nursing service in Seoul have faverable attitudes regarding family planning." -This hipothesis was confirmed.
3. "Knowledge regarding family planning is different according to their age, in-service education and educational background." -This hypothesis was confirmed.
4. "Knowledge about family planning is different according to their length of public health experience and the majoring part before attempting generalized public health nursing service." -This hypothesis was not cnfirmed.
