의사들의 정보 요구에 관한 연구

본 연구는 보건 의료인들이 그들의 목적인 양질의 의료를 베풀고 또 학술적인 연구를

하기 위해 요청하는 관련 문헌들을 효율적으로 제공해 주기 위한 기초 자료를 얻는데 큰

목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 본 연구에서는 연세의료원의 의사들을 대상으로 다음

과 같은 사항들을 고찰해 보았다.

(1) 의사들은 실제로 어떤 형태의 정보를 요구하고 이용하는가?

(2) 이러한 정보의 요구를 만족시키기 위하여 어떠한 정보 수집 방법을 이용하는가?

(3) 이들의 도서관 업무에 대한 인지도, 이용정도, 만족도는 어느 정도인가?

본 연구에서는 이상의 정보를 요구하고 이용하는 행위를 정보 수집 방법과 도서관 업무

에 대한 인지도, 이용정도 및 만족도로서 조사하였다. 정보 수집 방법과 도서관 업무에

대한 인지도, 이용정도 및 만족도는 개인적인 변수, 주된 업무 형태, 전공 분야, 이전의

도서관 업무에 관여해 본 경험의 유무에 따라 차이가 있을 것이라는 기존 이론에 따라 본

연구에서는 이들의 관계를 교차 분석하였다.

분석 결과 나타난 중요한 사실은 다음과 같다.

1. 연세의료원의 의사들은 관심 분야에 관한 최근의 연구 결과 등을 알고저 할 때와 연

구 과제의 수행을 위하여 정보를 가장 많이 필요로 하는 것으로 나타났다.

2. 연세의료원의 의사들은 주로 도서관이나, 학술잡지를 정기적으로 읽으므로써, 필요

한 정보를 얻고 있었고, 이때 많이 이용하는 정보소스는 학술잡지와 고급 교과서인 것으

로 나타났다.

3. 도서관을 이용하여 정보를 얻는 방법은 의료직에 1-14년 동안 종사하였거나, 도서관

업무에 관여해 본 경험이 없거나, 도서관 업무에 대한 인지도와 이용정도는 높고 만족도

가 낮은 의사들에 의해 많이 이용되는 경향이 있었고, 의료직에 15년 이상 종사한 의사들

은 학술잡지를 정기적으로 읽으므로써 필요한 정보를 얻는 경향을 보였다.

4. 학술잡지는 의료직에 20년 이상 종사하였거나, 전문의, 박사, 기초의학을 전공한 의

사들에게서 많이 이용되는 경향이 있었고, 고급 교과서는 의료직에 5-9년 동안 종사하였

거나, 학사, 석사, 수련의, 임상의학을 전공한 의사들이 많이 이용하고 있는 경향을 보였

다.

5. 연세의료원 의사들은 기관 내 도서관에서 하고 있는 참고 업무에 대하여는 많이 알

고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 알고 있는 업무를 이용해 본 경험은 훨씬 적은 것으로

나타났으며 대부분의 의사들은 기관 내 도서관에서 하고 있는 업무에 대하여 만족하고 있

지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

6. 연세의료원 의사들은 정보가 필요할 때 주로 도서관을 이용하여 필요한 정보를 구하

는 경향이 있지만 도서관을 이용하는 빈도수는 비교적 적은 것으로 나타났다.

A STUDY ON INFORMATION NEEDS OF MEDICAL DOCTORS

-In the Case of Yonsei Medical Center-

Major purpose of this study is to provide basic data required for planning of

efficient health information system which health practitioners may use for their

better medical practice and scientific research. to attain this general goal,

medical doctors of Yonsei Medical Center were selected as objects of the survey and

the following items were investigated.

(1) Which type of information do the medical doctors need and actually use?

(2) Which channels do they prefer to meet their information needs?

(3) What are the degree of knowledge, frequency of use, and degree of

satisfaction toward library services?

In this study, the above mentioned activities of information need and use were

evaluated by information gathering methods they used, and their degree of

knowledge, frequency of use, and degree of satisfaction toward library services. On

the basis of the established theory that information gathering methods, and degree

of knowledge, frequency of use, and degree of satisfaction toward library services

are affected by individual variables, type of work, subject field, and previous

experience in library administration, the relationship between these variables was

analyzed.

The major findings are as follows:

1. Medical doctors of Yonsei Medical Center showed that they needed information

mainly to know the recent research results in their interested subject fields and

to conduct their research projects.

2. They tended to obtain information through library and regular reading of

research periodicals. And main information sources they used were research

periodicals and advanced textbooks.

3. It was found that library was used most frequently by medical doctors who

worked for 1 to 14 years, who had no previous experience in library administration,

and who had high degree of knowledge, high frequency of use, and low degree of

satisfaction toward library services. Medical doctors who worked for 15 years or

more showed that they obtained information by regular reading of research

periodicals.

4. It was found that research periodicals were used mainly by medical doctors who

worked for 20 years or more, who were board certified specialists, who had doctoral

degree, and who majored in fundamental medicine. And it was found that advanced

textbooks were used mainly by medical doctors who worked for 5 to 9 years, who had

bachelor degree, and who majored in clinical medicine.

5. It was shown that although medical doctors of Yonsei Medical Center had high

degree of knowledge about reference services given by the institution's library,

their frequency of use and degree of satisfaction toward them were relatively low.

6. Medical doctors of Yonsei Medical Center tended to seek information mainly

through library, but they showed relatively low frequency of library use.
