dc.description.abstract[영문] [한글] A Comparative Study of Children of Well Baby Clinics -With Special References to Clinics in Severence Medical Complex- Ryum, Bang Ja Department of Public Health, Graduate School, Yonsei University (Directed by Assistant Professor Kim, Mo Im) Health supervision of the childhood is the most effective and the most important part of community plan for promotion of the health of the individual since the result of the work have been and will continue to be fruitful. There have been efforts made by governmental and voluntary agencies to provide health supervision. A few studies were undertaken to learn about children registered in public well baby clinic but none was done for them utilizing health supervision services offered by the voluntary agencies. Therefore, this is an attempt to learn about children enrolled in two well baby clinics run by Yonsei Medical Complex, namely "Free" Well Baby Clinic and "Charge" Well Baby Clinic. The major objectives of this study are to obtain 1. Information on general characteristics of infants enrolled and their parents 2. Knowledge on relationship between parents general characteristics and birth place, age at registration by month and feeding methods. 400 children (200 from each clinic) among the registered from January 1st to December 31st of 1969 were selected as study population through systematic simple random sampling out of 1858 infants in total ("Free" well Baby Clinic, 608 and "Charge" Well Baby Clinic, 1250) A check list form was developed and used to draw information from registration cards. The obtained information was hand tabulated, analyzed and tested statistically. Results of the study are as follows. 1. There was no sex differences among children registered and in ages at registration for the service in both clinics. No comparation was possibly made regarding place of present residents due to lack of records on it among clients of "Free" Well Baby Clinic. Birth weights between two clinic clients were not compared since most of them of the "Free" Well Baby Clinic seemed to have their births given at home and their birth weights seemed to have not measured. Nevertheless the average birth weights of the "Charge" Well Baby clinic was around 3.9kg which was considered to be better than known birth weight of normal baby on the average. 84.8% and 91.0% of them finished of at least one shot of D.P.T. and polio immunization but only 1.8% got B.C.G. vaccination which is considered to be very low comparing to the rate of B.C.B. vaccination by public well baby clinics. There was no significant difference between the two clinics in terms of vaccination status of B.C.G. and small pox. It was also noticed that feeding method did not significantly differ from "Charge" to "Free" Well Baby Clinic. Breast milk was mainly fed the infants aged 1 month to 1 year of both well baby clinics. 2. Age distribution, educational status of parents and occupational status of father between "Free" and "Charge" Well Baby clinics were different. This was proved to be highly significant statistically according to X**2 test at 95.0% confidence level. It is interesting to notice that younger parents utilize the services of the "Charge" well Baby Clinics than that of the "Free" Well Baby Clinic. It is found that parents highly educated and especially fathers with white collar occupation were utilizing "Charge" well Baby Clinic, whereas parents less educated and father with blue collar occupation, "Free" Well Baby Clinic. 3. It is found that there was almost lineal relationship between educational status of parents and number of hospital deliveries, and was an inverse a lineal relationship roughly between educational status and age at registration to the clinic, and home deliveries. As parent's educational status is going up, use of cow milk and mixed food seemed increasing. It is also found that occupational status of father did not seem to play a role in status of birth places, ages at registration and feeding methods. In consideration of limitations of this kind of study, results of the study could be used as basic reference materials for more efficient program planning of the well baby clinics to provide pertinent and comprehensive services to needed children.-
