변모하는 사회, 생활환경의 변화, 정보매체의 발달, 성자극 환경의 증대 및 성적성숙은 오늘날 청소년들의 성교육 문제가 대두되었다. 이에 본 연구는 서울시내 일부 고등학교 교사들의 성교육에 대한 태도를 조사하여 향후 올바른 성교육의 시행의 기초자료로 삼고자 서울시내에 소재한 인문계 여자 고등학교 4개교, 실업계 여자 고등학교 5개교, 남자 고등학교 및 남녀공학 3개교로 총 12개교에 재직중인 429명의 남녀교사를 대상으로 1984년 4월6일 부터 19일 까지 사전준비된 설문지를 도구화하여 직접 및 간접방법으로 조사한 후 분석 및 통계는 SPSS 처리에 의해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.
1. 과거 성교육 경험이 있는 교사는 32.9%이었고, 현재 성교육 필요성에 대해선 93.2%가 인식하고 있었으며, 성교육 실시경험은 50.8% 이었다.
2. 학교 유형별로는 인문여고나 실업여고 교사에 비해 남자고교 및 남녀공학 교사가 성교육의 필요성에 대해 약간 낮게 인식하고 있었으며, 성별로는 여교사가 과거 경험이나 필요성 인식, 실시경험 모두에서 남교사보다 높게 나타났으며, 연령, 교직경력, 결혼유무별에서는 연령이 낮을수록, 교직경력이 적을수록, 미혼교사가 과거 경험이나 필요성 인식에서 높게 나타났으나, 실제 실시 경험에서는 40대 교사가, 11-20 년된 근속 교사가, 기혼교사가 높게 나타났다.
담당과목별에서는 과거 경험과 필요성 인식에서는 별 차이가 없으나 실시경험에서는 성교육 관련과목 교사가 높게 나타났다. 그외 최종학력과 종교에서는 통계학적으로 유의성이 없었다.
이상과 같은 결과로 과거 교사의 성교육 경험보다는 현재 학생들의 교육경험이 더 많은 것으로 사려되나, 체계적이고 올바른 성교육이 실시되기 위해선 지속적인 연구과 행정적 지원이 요청된다.
[영문]Sex education has been regarded as of great important to keep morality in our society, because modernization and industrialization of our society bring correlatively about moral and sexual corruption.
This study was aimed to get the basic materials for the practice of sex education by investigating the attitudes of 429 high school teachers on sex education. The questionnaire survey from the teachers working at four girl's high schools, five vocational girl's high schools, one boy's high school and two co-educational high schools in Seoul was carried out in April, 1984.
The results obtained in this survey are summarized as follows:
1. The experiences and attitudes of the teachers on sex education. Thirty two percent of the respondents has experienced sex education during their school years. From there respondents, females (46.3%) were more educated than males. Also, the twenties (46.7%) of age and young educatinal careerers(43.8%) showed the high rates of educational experiences.
In the contents of sex education, male teachers emphasized on the establishment of right human relationship between sexes, and female teachers stressed more on marriage and responsiblities of two sexes. Most teachers seemed to be aware of the influences of sex education on social adjustment and mental health, and of the physical and emotional development of the students.
2. The awareness of the necessity of sex education. Most respondents(93.2%) replied that sex education has to be practiced necessarily. The teachers at the girl's high schools(96.5%), female teachers(96.3%), the teachers in their twenties(98.2%) and young teaching careerers(98.3%) were highty aware of the necessity of sex educaation.
Only 11.7% of answerers replied that the students have right sexual knowledge, and many teachers(78.3%) presumed that some students have had sexual experiences.
3. Experience of sex education in school and educatinal materials. About 50 percent of the respondents had teaching experiences of sex education in their classes. Female teachers(63.3%) and those who were teaching the subjects related with sex education (64.6%), showed high rates of teaching experiences.
Most teachers(96.3%) complained insufficiency of teaching materials, and for the improvement of sex education they indicated the use of audio-visual adis(64.8%), preparation of teacher's guides(49.7%), and training of specialized teachers(49.4%).
In summarizing the above results, the administrative support and supply of teaching materials are urgently necessitated although the students are receiving more sex education nowadays. Futher studies are expected in Korea for the systamatic and extensive sex education.
