現在 우리나라는 生活汚水의 相當部分을 糞尿淨化槽에 依存하여 處理하고 있는 實情이다. 嫌氣性方式을 採擇하고 있는 現在의 糞尿淨化槽는 處理效率이 低調하므로 將來에는 차츰 好氣性으로 處理方式을 轉換하게 될 것이 豫想된다. 本 硏究에서는 小規模 糞尿淨化槽에 曝氣槽를 導入하고 여기에 微生物 接觸媒質을 設置하여 處理效率에 미치는 影響을 測定하였다. 曝氣槽의 媒質은 微細한 纖維絲의 Ring으로 構成되어 있으며, 槽內 溶存酸素 濃度는 항상 2.0㎎/ℓ 以上으로 維持하였다. 曝氣槽를 通한 處理水는 沈澱槽를 거쳐 放流한다. 本 硏究 結果로 다음과 같은 結論을 얻었다.

1. 流入水의 水質 變動에도 不拘하고 大體로 安定되고 良好한 流出水 水質을 얻을 수 있었다. 流入水의 汚染物質 濃度가 BOD 49∼278㎎/ℓ SS 34∼476㎎/ℓ이었으며 流出水의 平均 BOD는 16∼35㎎/ℓ SS 16∼34㎎/ℓ이었다.

2. 曝氣室에서의 處理效率은 BOD 68∼91%, SS 54∼93%이었으며 SBOD 除去率은 86∼96% 範圍이었다.

3. 溫度 20℃ 내외에서 接觸媒質의 使用量을 9, 45, 60, 120 m/㎥로 점차 增加시킴에 따라 附着汚泥의 換算濃度는 0, 95, 135, 312㎎/ℓ로 되어 比例的인 增加 關係를 나타낸데 반해 淨遊汚泥濃度(MLSS)는 反比例的으로 減少하여 372㎎/ℓ에서 87㎎/ℓ로 줄었다.

4.流出水의 BOD濃度는 曝氣槽의 固形物滯留時間(SRT)과 反比例的인 關係를 보여 SRT가 11, 18, 25, 36 日로 增加함에 따라 BOD는 35, 25, 16, 18㎎/ℓ로 減少하였다. 다만 SRT 25 日以上에서는 SRT增加에도 不拘하고 流出水 水質이 改善되지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

以上의 結果로부터 曝氣槽의 SRT를 增加시키면 流出水 水質을 滿足할 만한 水準까지 改善할 수 있는데 이때 接觸媒質을 使用하므로써 槽內 微生物量 및 SRT를 쉽게 調節할 수 있었다. 또한 接觸媒質 使用量이 增加하면 淨遊汚泥의 量이 減少하므로 最終 沈澱池를 設置하지 않아도 良好한 流出水 水質을 얻을 수 있는 것으로 判斷되었다.

A considerable portion of organic pollutants of domestic origin is being treated by septic tanks due to the insufficient capacity of municipal wastewater treatment systems in Korea.

As the septic tanks which are anaerobic exert low organic removal efficiency, it would be inevitable in the future to change the system to aerobic for a better treatment. This study was to measure the effects of contact media in the solids retention time and the treatability in an aerobically treated septic tank system. The result could be summarized as follows :

1. The effluent quality was steady and satisfactory in general in spite of fluctuating influent strengths. An average BOD and SS of the effluent was 16-35 mg/l and 16-34 mg/l, respectively. Of the BOD concentration, 50-80 percent of the value was exerted due to the suspended materials.

2. An average treatment efficiency of a combination of the aeration tank and the final clarifier was 68-91% as BOD, 54-93% as SS and 86-96% as SBOD.

3. As the amount of contact media was increased, the weight of the attached sludge increased almost proportionally, while the suspended sludge concentration decreased. Thus, it was thought that the final clarifier could be saved if the amount of the contact media was sufficiently increased.

4. The effluent BOD was decreased as the solids retention time was increased. This implied that the effluent quality could be improved by increasing the amount of contact media.
