성인에서 노화에 따른 기억 변화

노화 과정에 따라서 인지 기능은 저하하는 것으로 알려져 있으며 기억 저하는 노인들이

가장 많이 경험하는 인지장애 중의 하나로 노화에 따른 기억 감퇴는 치매나 병적 기억상

실과는 감별을 요한다. 이에 저자는 정상 노화 과정에 따른 기억 감퇴를 측정하고 이를

바탕으로 노인 인구에서 정상 노화 과정에 의한 기억 감퇴를 치매나 병적 기억상실과 감

별하기 위한 기초 자료로 삼고자 20세 이상 78세 까지의 정상 성인 90명을 대상으로 MMSE

, Geriatric Depression Scale, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, Rey Osterrieth Com

plex Figure Test, Gollin's Incomplete Drawing Test, 등 기억에 관한 신경심리검사를

시행하여 결과를 분석하였다.

한국 정상 성인에서 기억력은 나이에 따라 의미있게 감소 하였는데 기억저하의 양상은

50세를 분기점으로 정성적인 차이를 보였다. 즉 50세 이하에서는 visuospatial memory가,

50세 이상에서는 verbal memory가 나이의 증가에 따라 의미있게 감소 하였다. 한국에서

노화에 따른 기억의 변화는 사회 문화적 환경이 다른 서구의 보고와는 그 양상이 다르며,

따라서 기억에 관한 신경심리검사를 이용하여 서구의 기준으로 치매나 병적 기억 상실을

진단하는데는 주의를 요한다고 생각된다.

Though cognitive functions of a man decline in normal aging and memory decline is

the most common complaint of an elderly, studies of quantitative and qualitative

estimates of these are rare in Korea. To assess the qualitative and quantitative

aspect of changes of memory in aging, neupsychological tests about memory functions

were performed and the results were analyzed in healthy adult volunteers, of 20 to

78-year-old, haying no evidence of organic brain dysfunction.

The scores of each tests are lower than that of English-speaking countries, but

memory functions declined significantly in normal aging and the qualitative aspect

of these are characteristic. Contrary to the western reports, the visuospatial

memory declined significantly before the age of 50, and the verbal memory after 50

in aging.

So, we should take care in screening and diagnosis of dementia and amnesia using

these neuropsychological test.
