dc.description.abstract[한글] [영문] The present study is concerned with normal angles of the ankle and foot in normatl X-rays taken from January 1965 to August 1971 in Severance Hospital, Korea. Normal angles of the ankle and foot were analyzed statistically, using standard radiographic drawings of the foot in weight bearing and the correlation of the normal angles was studied with statistical analysis of differences of age and sex in the growing period and in adults. The data were based on a study in Korea of normal males-764 and females-535, ad total of 1,299 subjects, ranging in age from newborn to 80 years. The results are as follows 1. The angles of the normal ankle and foot in adults were(mean ± standard error in degrees). Tibial angle 63.8 ± 0.3 64.8 ± 0.4 Fibular angle 56.2 ± 0.3 56.5 ± 0.4 Talocalcaneal angle(A-P view) 18.3 ± 0.4 18.2 ± 0.5 Talocalcaneal angle(lateral view) 40.2 ± 0.3 41.0 ± 0.4 Calcaneus-5th metatarsal angle 145.9 ± 0.4 146.2± 0.4 Tuber-joint(Beohler's) angle 31.1 ± 0.4 31.3 ± 0.3 Hallux-valgus angle 14.3 ± 0.4 15.7 ± 0.5 Metatarsus-varus angle 7.1 ± 0.2 8.0 ± 0.2 Calcaneus-tibia angle 85.1 ± 3.2 89.5 ± 3.5 Calcaneus-floor angle 12.7 ± 0.3 13.0 ± 0.3 Valgus angle between axis b and c 141.9 ± 0.9 141.6± 0.6 Varus angle between axis a and c 150.7 ± 0.4 151.7± 0.4 2. Tiial angle and hallux-valgus angle were increased statistically by growth in both males and females and the metatarsus-varus angle in males. 3. Talocalcaneal angle(anteroposterior view), varus angle between axis a and c were decreased statistically by growth in males and females but the calcaneus-floor angle only in males. 4. The normal talocalcaneal angle(lateral view) and valgus angle between axis b and c of males were higher than those of females in the 5-10 year old group (p<0.05). 5. The normal tibial angle, calcaneus-tibia angle, varus angle between axis a and c of females were higher than those of males in the 15-20 year old groups and metatarsus-varus angle of females was also higher in the over 20 year old group (p<0.05). 6. The tibial angle was an average of 64˚and the fibular angle was 56˚ in Korean adults. The former was 11˚ higher, the latter was 4˚ higher than those of American adults. 7. The hallux-valgus angle of Koreans was lower, slightly than those of Americans.-
