Abstract
Investigators have identified the hydrophobic nature of titanium dental implants. This characteristic may delay or prevent osseointegration in some situations. Exposure of an implant to a source of ultraviolet light may transform a hydrophobic to a hydrophilic surface, which, as described in this article, may influence osseointegration in biologically compromised subjects. This featured article presents interesting information on this relatively new technology.
