Abstract
This study aimed to identify professional standards for educators in medical schools in South Korea. A survey on the experts in medical education was conducted to measure their perceptions on the importance and performance in each medical school of the professional standards suggested by Academy of Medical Educators in UK. Based on the survey results, the gap between the importance and performance and the educational needs of each standard were analyzed. 75 out of 152 items were revealed to be important as professional standards for medical educators in South Korea, and there were significant differences in experts’ perceptions on the importance of the standards according to their academic specialties. The standards related to assessment and feedback, reflections, and learner engagement had the highest educational needs. The study can provide specific objectives for faculty development programs in medical schools and medical education organizations.
