A valid screening caloric test should reduce patient discomfort, decrease examination time and maintain a high degree of sensitivity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of minimal ice water caloric test for screening method. Normal neuro-otological subjects (n=88) were studied, and unilateral vestibular function decreased (n=20), bilateral vestibular function decreased (n=5) who were confirmed by bithermal caloric test and ice water stimulatin. 0.25ml ice water was instilled into external auditory canal (EAC) through 18G angioneedle under otoscopic examination. The maximum velocity of slow phase eye movement was recorded by Electronystagmography (ENG) and asymmetry (right-left) was checked. If no nystagmus was observed after 0.25ml of ice water instillation, and then, 0.4ml ice water was instilled into External auditory canal (EAC) after 10 min. The result of this study was suggested that a minimal ice water caloric test was high sensitivity if two parameter (maximum velocity and asymmetry) was applied. Criteria of decreased vestibular function in lunded that maximum velocity is less than 12。/sec and asymmetry is more than 50%.-
