dc.description.abstractPurpose: Scarlet fever is caused by pyrogen producing streptococcal infection. It had been considered as a fatal disease and can induce serious complication on heart and kidney. But there are a few studies for it recently. The object of this study is to know its update epidemiological and clinical features . Methods: I collected the clinical informations of scarlet fever patients who had been admitted at the Department of Pediatrics , YongIn Severance Hospital, YongIn, Korea from January 2001 to December 2011, retrospectively. Their clinical characteristics, demographics, treatment outcomes were investigated. Results: There were forty-four scarlet fever cases and they accounted 0.4% of total admitted patients at pediatric department during that time. Most frequent cases(18.2%) were observed at 2008 year and annual patients numbers patterned on two 5 to 6-year cyclic epidemics. Fifteen cases were found from 2001 to 2005 and twenty-three from 2006 to 2010. It has increased per cycle. Twenty-four cases(54.5%) were found from October to November. Thirtyfour cases(77.3%) were belonged to 3 to 6 years age group. Male to female ratio was 20:24. Thirty-eight cases(86.4%) were discharged within 5 days. No rheumatic heart disease or acute glomerulonephirtis was observed after discharge. Conclusion: It is mainly observed at pre-school age children during autumn. It can be managed without complication and has good prognosis. Admission for it is rare , but its outbreak can be expected. Further monitoring for it should be considered, because it can reemerge.-
