Abstract

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), also known as low cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure headache occurs without evidence of any proceding events such as lumbar puncture, back trauma, operative procedure, or medical illness. The most characteristic symptom is the presence of postural headache and it takes several weeks or months to resolve spontaneously. The treatments for SIH include bed rest, abdominal binder, caffeines, corticosteroids, continuous epidural saline infusion, and epidural blood or fibrin glue patch. We report a case of spontaneous intracranial hypotension with simultaneous leaks at the cervicothoracic junction and the upper lumbar area successfully treated with epidural blood patches.
