Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of motivation of SNS usage and networking, political interest and efficacy on political participation. Participants were 397 nursing students, informed of study purpose, and agreed to participate in this study. Data were collected from May to June, 2014 using the structured questionnaire about access to SNS, political interest, political efficacy and political participation. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe’s test, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients, and Multiple Stepwise Regression. Level of political participation and political interest were middle, and level of political efficacy was over middle in nursing students. Political participation of nursing students was significantly different by listening presence of politics subjects(F=6.59, p<.001), using of Blog(t=2.74, p<.01), Kakao talk(t=2.01, p<.05), Internet portal site(t=2.24, p<.05). Also political participation of nursing students had moderate positive correlation with political interest(r=.51, p<.001), political efficacy(r=.40, p<.001) and SNS networking(r=.22, p<.001). Political interest(β =.34) was the most affecting factor to political participation with 26% of explanation power, and the total 35% of political participation was explained by motivation of access to SNS, political interest, internal political efficacy, and listening presence of politics subjects. Thus we suggested that it was necessary to seek the proper way for promoting political interest, political efficacy and motivation of access to SNS to improve political participation in nursing students.
