[영문] The purpose of this study was to obtain information on the home treatment state for children with cerebral palsy and to identify stress in the children''s mothers. Direct interviews were conducted from March 17 to April 4, 2003 with 97 mothers with CP children who were undergoing physical therapy at 4 general hospitals, 1 social welfare center, and 1 clinic. The characteristics of the CP children and their mothers, actual conditions of home treatment, and stress level according to home treatment were investigated. The following results were obtained after comparing the level of stress felt by mothers according to each characteristic. 1. The average score of mother''s stress during home treatment was 16.97. The ''anxiety over prognosis'' was the most stressful item (3.91 1.05) and the stress from ''negligence of housework'' was the least stressful item (2.64 1.20). 2 Among the characteristics of mothers with CP children, stress was high in mothers who were not satisfied with treatment outcome (p<0.05) and in those whose acceptance of disability was low (p<0.01). Stress felt by mothers was low when their health status was high (p<0.05). 3. The physical burden which originated from the extra-care of the disabilities of the CP children was shown to have a statistically significant correlation with the stress of the mothers during home treatment(p<0.01). 4. Of the varied characteristics of the CP children, significant differences were shown between the severity of disability of the CP children and mother''s stress(p<0.01). Mothers with a child of Level 2 disability had lower levels of stress than those with a child of Level 4 or 5. 5. Among the various items in the actual conditions of home treatment, mothers who felt that they were lacking in home treatment techniques had higher levels of stress than those who felt that they were fully equipped with techniques for home treatment(p<0.05). In conclusion, the scrutiny of home treatment factors related to mother''s stress and the provision of data needed for relieving their stress are expected to increase the effective performance of home rehabilitation programs for CP children.-
