국민학교 환경교육에 관한 교과과정의 연구

인구의 증가와 산업의 발달과 이에 따른 소비의 격증 등으로 쾌적한 우리의 환경은 파

괴되고 있다. 이는 세계인류의 인식부족과 무지에서 유래되는 것으로 인류는 이제 환경을

개선하고 보호하는 것을 지상목표로 여기고 있다.

환경파괴는 인간의 생활과 행동의 산물이므로 환경의 보호와 개선을 위해서는 환경에

대한 올바른 의식을 심어주는 교육이 절대적으로 필요하다.

이에 본 연구는 전인교육을 목표로 하고 있는 국민학교의 전교육과정의 환경교육내용을

분석하여 국민학교 환경교육의 문제점을 제시하고 이를 체계화하는 데 이바지하고자 한

다.

국민학교 전과정의 교과서를 연구대상으로 하여 교육목표를 분석하고, 교과내용은 학년

별, 환경교육영역별로 분석하였다. 분석결과와 결론을 요약하면 다음과 같다.

1. 환경교육목표가 독립적으로 설정되어 있지 않다. 환경교육내용 역시 각과목에 산재

해 있으므로 교육이 목표지향적이지 못하고 체계성이 결여되어 있다. 따라서 아직 초보적

인 지식수준에 있는 아동들이 환경을 전체적으로 이해하기란 불가능하다.

2. 환경교육내용이 일부학년에 편중되어 있으므로 지속적이고 반복적인 학습을 통해 가

치관을 형성해 주고 태도에 변화를 주어야 하는 환경교육의 효과를 거두기 어렵다.

3. 환경교육의 방향이 설정되어 있지 않고 내용이 빈약하므로 현장 교사들의 환경에 대

한 이해도에 따라서 환경교육의 방향과 내용이 달라질 수 있다.

4. 지역환경특성에 맞는 환경교육이 미흡하고 환경파괴, 환경오염으로 인한 피해의 실

례를 다루고 있지 않아 실질적인 교육이 이루어지지 않고 있다.

5. 소비생활에 관한 교육이 경제적인 측면에서만 이루어지고 환경교육적인 측면은 무시

되고 있다.

따라서 이와 같은 현행 국민학교 교과편제상의 문제점을 보완하고 환경교육의 실효를

거두기 위해서는,

첫째, 환경에 대한 올바른 인식과 가치관을 갖도록 현장 교사들에 대한 일관성 있는 교

육과 계몽이 선행되어야 한다.

둘째, 환경교육의 목표와 방향을 설정하고 이에 적합한 부교재를 개발하여 활용해야 한

다.

세째, 환경교육을 효과적으로 보조해 주는 시청각교재 즉, 슬라이드, 괘도, 기타자료가

개발되어야 한다.

네째, 환경오염피해지역, 환경파괴지역, 자연학습원 등을 견학하여 교실과 현장과의 유

대를 갖도록 교육한다. 지역환경의 특성을 보다 잘 이해하도록 특별활동시간 등을 유효하

게 활용토록 한다.

The human environment has been destroyed by the population increase, the rapid

industrial development and the everenhancing energy consumption. In addition to

these factors, the lack of knowledge for environmental protection of human being is

considered one of the most hazardous factors for environmental protection.

In fact, most people are still not feeling it serious for environment

destruction. Therefore, sound education should be urgently carried out for

protection of environment and furthermore mankind itself.

Today environmental education seems to be unsatisfactory with many defects such

as goal, sequence and placement, contents etc., so that this study is aimed at the

analysis of these problems through the whole course of the elementary school.

The obtained results of this study are as follows:

1. It seems that for the school children it is hard to understand the importance

of the environment collectively and systematically because the objective of

environmental education is not stated separately and more than that teaching

contents are included dispersively in the several curricula.

2. The placement and sequences of curriculum for environmental education are

neither well-organized nor well-balanced in each grade, therefore efficient results

can not be expected.

3. Contents of teaching in environmental education are not systematic. Also

without Well-defined objectives of environmental education, each teacher is apt to

teach differently according to his or her own understanding.

4. Environmental education could not be directly associated with community status

such as pollution and damage from pollution.

5. Education on the consumption pattern is done only from the economical

viewpoint, without satisfactory teaching from the environmental viewpoint.

In short, the following items are recommended for a better environmental

education with solving the above problems :

1. Sound and effective training for the classroom teachers for environmental

education should be carried out as soon as possible.

2. The objective and direction of environmental education should be clearly

defined and also supplementary textbooks for the teachers should be provided.

3. More audio-visual aids (equipments and materials) should be supplied to each

school for better teaching.

4. With a deeper concern, a much stronger emphasis on the environment of the

community, and teaching on environmental education to pupils should imply lectures

in the classroom as well as observations to the community especially in the

dominant and serious areas for pollution problems.
