Objectives: To identify the trends and attitudes of Korean physicians toward recommending when HRT is started and how long it is continued for postmenopausal women. Methods: In a cross sectional study was invited letter to complete and return enclosed questionnaires to Korean menopausal society members(physicians). Results: Most physicians recommended postmenopausal women to start HRT for any indication during perimenopausal period or at least within 5 years after menopause. For relieving menopausal symptoms, 38.8% of respondents recommended continuing HRT till subsiding the symptoms and 35.5% recommended in 5 years after menopause. However, there lacked a consistency of sex and age among subjects. For preventing osteoporosis, 41.2% of respondents recommended continuing HRT for lifelong, although sex and age lacked consistency. For preventing cardiovascular disease, 37.2% of respondents recommended continuing HRT for lifelong and 25.6% recommended continuing HRT till between 5 and 10 years after menopause, although sex lacked consistency. Conclusions: Most Members of Korean menopausal society recommended starting HRT for any indications at least within 5 years after menopause. However, there was a discordance among Korean physicians regarding how long should be recommended to continue according to indications. Thus consensus for the duration of HRT will be needed among physicians.
