Abstract
Several synthetic and biological materials have been used for the treatment of bony defects, ridge augmentation, and osteoporotic lesions. Among hem, calcium phosphates such as hydroxyapatite(HA) and tricalcium phosphate(TCP) have been widely used. Porous materials having interconnected pores with sufficient pore size, that is several hundred micrometers, are received much attention because let the tissue penetrate into porous-block easily, thus improve the attachment between bone graft materials and surrounding tissues. ,
In this study, we investigated the optimal manufacturing process of the porous calcium phosphate glass block with interconnected pores of few hundred micrometers in Cao-CaF2-P.205-MgO-ZnO system using polymeric sponge as a template and obtained following results. Calcium phosphates glass slurry was homogeneously thick-coated when the weigint ratio between
the calcium phosphate glass powder and water was 40:60 with 8 wt% of polyvinyl alcohol as a binder. Addition of 10 wt% -- - dimethyl formamide as a drying control chemical additive into a slurry almost prevented the crack forn ing during drying. Sintering of the dried porous block at 8501C exhibited most dense microstructure as well as entire elimination of organic additives.
