Purpose: Cervical mass is often observed in children. There were a lot of reports about it, but they were investigated in tertiary referred hospital and/or with biopsy specimens. So they may not help primary care physicians. I studied it at a community-based hospital to help them. Methods: The medical records of 52 patients who have been treated for cervical mass from January 2004 to December 2007 at Department of Pediatrics, YongIn Severance Hospital, YongIn, Korea have been reviewed retrospectively. The clinical characteristics have been searched. Results: Male to female ratio was 1.4:1. There was no predominantly frequent age group. More than half of them showed upper respiratory tract infection symptoms (78.9%), mass tenderness (69.2%), fever (63.4%). Single, 2~4 cm diameter sized, soft masses were more frequent than others. The causes of them were not specific in 22 cases (42.3%). The most common known etiology was infection and sinusitis was frequent. There were 6 case of congenital malformation (3 bronchial cleft cyst, 3 thyroglossal duct cyst) and 3 cases of cancer (2 lymphoma, 1 ALL). 38 cases (73.1%) of all cervical masses were resolved with conserved treatment without biopsy. Conclusion: Almost all of their clinical course and causes were begin, but there was a remarkable incidence of malignancy. Cancer should be considered for the one of causes of it.-
