In a 8-week open label clinical study. Eleven male patients with DSM-III-R premature ejaculation were treated with fluoxetine, a selective inhibitor of serotonin reuptake. After two weeks of washout period, each patient was assigned to receive fluoxetine. Which was given once-daily 20mg for one wwek or more. And then was titrated to 60mg depending on either the clinical responses or the side effects. A within-subjects comparison of pre-and post-treatment self-visual analogue'scale scores for sexual desire, anxiety for rapid djaculation. Spouse's satisfaction with ejaculation or overall sexual function revealed a significant improvemen. Also fluoxetine treatment produced significant improvements in Hamllton Rating Scale for Depression scores and SCL-90-R rating scale scores. These data suggest that serotonergic antidepressant may be effective in treating rapid ejaculation in male and underline the need to carry out a double-blind, placebo controlled trial to confirm these results.
