Abstract

A Survey of The Health Perception and Reported Health Behavior of The Girls' High

School Teachers who Taught Course Content Related to Health Care in Seoul

Hwang, Mi-Hyun

Department of Nursing, The Graduate School of Yonsei University

(Directed by Professor Cho, Won-Jung )

This study investigated health perception and reported health behavior of the

teachers who taught courses that included health care content and examined the

teachers' scores by whether or not they majored in nursing. It was anticipated that

the findings of this study would be helpful in formulating a plan of health

education for schools.

The sample consisted of 110 teachers who taught course related to health care

like physical training, home economics, nursing and who worked in 21 girls' high

school. A convenience sample was selected from among 63 private girls' high school

in Seoul.

The period of data collection was 15 days from Oct.,23, 1985 to Nov.8, 1985.

The two instruments used for this study were the health perception questionnaire

developed by Ware and the questionnaire for measuring the health behavior developed

by Cho.

The data were analyzed by use of percentage, mean, Pearson Correlation

Coefficient and t-test.

The results of this study were as follows ;

1. The over-all scores for health perceptions of subjects were high. The maximum

mean point was 5 and the average mean point was 3.30.

2. Subjects reported a high degree of health behavior, that is, an average mean

of 4.10.

3. When health perception and health behavior were analyzed by Pearson

Correlation, it was found that the higher the degree of health perception, the

better the reported health behavior score (r :.2469, P<.01).

4. There was no significant difference between respondents by education, that is,

nursing and non-nursing major, when health perception and reported health behavior

were compared.(health perception t = 1.05, P>.051 health behavior t : 1.30, P >.05)

.
