Abstract
Statistical Study of Pediatric Dermatoses During the Last 6 Years Hyun Chung Department of Medical Science The Graduate School Yonsei University (Directed by Professor Sungnack Lee, M.D.) Incidence of pediatric dermatoses are tend to increased inspite of medical development and environmental improvement. Pediatric dermatoses must be regarded as separate disease entities because of child skin is differ from adult skin in the structures and functions, and has particularity of the growing period. 11,447 childhood patients who had been visited to dermatologic department of Soon Chun Hyang Hospital, from 1975 to 1980, were analysed in order to persude the tendency of pediatric skin diseases on these days in Korea. The results are summarised as follows; 1. Among 34,472 outpatients, pediatric patients were 33.2%. 2. The most common dermatoses were atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, impetigo contagiosum, molluscum contagiosum, dermatophytosis, scabies, folliculitis, urticaria, varicella, and insect bite. 3. Most part of childhood dermatitis (65.5%) had developed at the time of preschool ages, especially the peak incidence was in 1-3 year group (32.8%). 4. Dermatoses which affected the male patient more than the female were atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, impetigo contagiosum, scabies, insect bite, urticaria, and miliaria. On the other hand, seborrheic dermatitis, acne, and hemangioma were predominant in the female patient. 5. The peak incidence of month had developed on August, 13.7%. The lowest incidence on November, 6.1%. Frequent diseases in summer season were impetigo contagiosum, folliculitis, urticaria, varicella, and insect bite. Scabies was frequent in fall and atopic dermatitis in winter, and contact dermatitis in spring.
