There is a direct relationship between the interaction of the magnitude of the discrepancy of the tooth, the number of teeth involved and the presence of occlusal irregularities. So, this study was designed to investigate the characteristics of the variable crown dimensions of permanent teeth related to the Mixed Dentition Analysis and a more complete analysis of etiologic factors and a more precise diagnosis and prognosis of the dental malocclusion problems.
The subjects consist of 102 dental stone models of normal occlusion and those of malocclusion 778.
The author measured the mesio-distal diameter and labio-lingual diameter of permanent tooth crown by Mitutoyo's sliding caliper and made probability charts as suggested by Moyers.
The following results were obtained.
(1) In normal occlusion, the mesio-distal diameter of mandibular central incisor was 5.63±0.34 mm and that of lateral incisor 6.22±0.37 mm.
(2) In normal occlusion, the labio-lingual diameter of mandibular central incisor was 5.77±0.61 mm and that of lateral incisor 6.28±0.49 mm.
(3) In malocclusion, the mesio-distal diameter of mandibular central incisor was 5.73±0.41 mm and that of lateral incisor 6.37±0.41 mm.
(4) In malocclusion, the labio-lingual diameter of mandibular central incisor was 6.0±0.61 mm and that of lateral incisor 6.44±0.51 mm.
(5) the intercanine width of mandibular cuspid to cuspid was 27.03±1.51 mm in normal occlusion and 26.92±1.34 mm in malocclusion.
(6) The mean value of the sum of mesio-distal diameter of maxillary cuspid, first premolar and second premolar was 26.1±1.29 mm and that of mandibular cuspid, first premolar and second premolar 25.1±1.54.
(7) The probability charts related to the Mixed Dentition Analysis, which the author made by means of Percentile's method, were as the table 7 and 8.
