Abstract

This study was performed to compare of membrane and bubble oxygenators, in 43 Adult patients who underwent heart valve replacement under cardiopulmonary bypass.
Twenty patients ( Group A ) underwent open heart surgery using COBE CML microporous polypropylene membrane oxygenators and 23 patient ( Group B ) using one of Hi-flex 700s (Dideco) or Bio - 10 (Bentley) bubble oxygenator.
There was no significant difference between two groups except platelet counts. The relative reduction of platelet count (percent of control) on first postoperative day was more severe in group B (p< 0.05)
Both oxygenators are functionally acceptable for an average, perfusion time of 140 minutes. There was no complication related to pump oxygenators.
